Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem Vicinage to Hold Recovery Court Graduations

The recovery court programs in Gloucester and Salem counties will hold graduation ceremonies next month in celebration of National Treatment Court Month.

The graduation in Salem County will be held Monday, May 13 at 11 a.m. in courtroom 204 of the Salem County Courthouse, 92 Market St., Salem.

The Gloucester County graduation ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 15 at 11 a.m. in the ceremonial courtroom of the Gloucester County Civil Courthouse, 1 N. Broad St., Woodbury.

Superior Court Judge Renard L. Scott will preside over the events, which will celebrate the successes of participants who have completed the program and recognize former graduates. The alumni will share their recovery experiences, as well as messages of strength and hope.

The vicinage's recovery court, which has programs in Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties, is among the largest in New Jersey. The programs, operating since 2002, have served more than 3,000 people and have graduated 964 participants.

The Judiciary's recovery court program operates within the Superior Court to address non-violent drug-related cases. The rigorous program requires completion of phases of drug and alcohol treatment that includes intensive probation supervision, frequent drug testing, and in-person and virtual court appearances. This level of supervision permits the program to support the recovery process but also allows the recovery court team to react quickly to impose appropriate therapeutic sanctions or reinstate criminal proceedings when participants do not comply.
