$3.5 million in grants awarded to Alabama arts organizations
$3.5 million in grants awarded to Alabama arts organizations Announcing project, operating support, and partnership grant recipients
MONTGOMERY, Ala., (September 9, 2022) - At its September quarterly meeting in Montgomery, Ala., the Alabama State Council on the Arts awarded 200grants totaling $3,595,800 to 156organizations across the state.
Organizations providing public programs in arts education, folk arts, community arts, literary arts, dance, music, theatre, and visual art forms received support through this competitive process. Some of these grants will support new and innovative public offerings and educational programs, along with administrative support; others will emphasize artistic traditions through the implementation of festivals, concerts, exhibitions, artist residencies, and workshops.
"Funds awarded through our grantmaking process serve as investments in Alabama's culture, creative economy, and quality of life," said Dr. Elliot Knight, the Council's executive director. "These grants provide a better education for students, strengthen cultural expression, and support life-long learning through high-quality arts experiences."

The grants above are in response to applications submitted under a June 1, 2022, deadline and are awarded for the 2023 fiscal year (October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023). The next grant application deadline is March 1, 2023, for individual artist fellowships and grants for planning, design, and construction of arts facilities. The application portal will open January 2, 2023. More grant awards will be announced in early December.

The Council on the Arts is the official state agency for the support and development of the arts in Alabama. The Council works to expand and preserve the state's cultural resources by supporting nonprofit arts organizations, schools, colleges, units of local government, and individual artists.
