Council's tidy up team tasked to make a real difference

Overgrown areas are being targeted by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council as part of improvement work planned for communities across the borough. The council has set up a 'Make a Difference' team tasked with tackling areas of vegetation and grass in need of some extra attention. The team has been set up to complement the existing ground maintenance staff and will provide additional resource to the upkeep of much-loved areas of the borough including the Diana Rose Garden in South Ham and the Station Masters Garden at South View cemetery.
It will focus on improving the appearance of the borough by landscaping vegetation, removing self-sown saplings, low overhanging branches and weeds, mowing and edging borders and paths. The team has already been praised for its work in the Abbey Road area of Popley, in Norden - including Oakridge Village - and in Winklebury. Cabinet Member for Resident Services Cllr Rebecca Bean said: "Our communities have told us that they value a clean and tidy borough, therefore we have provided additional support, over and above the excellent work already carried out by our grounds maintenance team, to deliver on what is important to our residents. "The team is newly formed but is already receiving some impressive feedback from residents for the work delivered so far. New areas will be targeted throughout the year, working in consultation with ward councillors, and I'm sure these improvements will be well received as well."
