Jeffco Treasurer Urges Property Owners to Be Mindful of Check Theft

Jefferson County Treasurer Jerry DiTullio announced this week that there have been at least a dozen instances of property tax payment checks being stolen out of blue USPS mailboxes. DiTullio is urging community members to be vigilant, especially since second half payments are being mailed now and are due June 17.

"If you are paying your property taxes by mail, it's vital to ensure that your check clears your bank and that it was paid out to Jefferson County," DiTullio said.

DiTullio says that to be cautious, taxpayers can also:

• Bring checks to the atrium drop box located in the Jefferson County Courts and Administration Building located at 100 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden. (Hours are Monday-Friday - 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
• Mail property tax checks directly from inside the post office
• Pay online through the Treasurer's Property Tax Payment portal

If you believe your check may have been stolen, please notify the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office's via their non-emergency number, 303-271-0211, and contact the Jefferson County Treasurer's Office at 303-271-8330.
