Wild horse adoption event to be held at the moffat county fairgrounds

Craig, Colo. -The Colorado Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will be holding a wild horse adoption event at the Moffat County Fairgrounds on June 16 and 17. Approximately 35 horses will be available for adoption from the Piceance East Douglas Horse Management Area (HMA).

"Our partners at the Piceance Mustangs have been invaluable at helping manage wild horses and burros and helping with adoptions," said Tyrell Turner, Northwest District Wild Horse & Burro Specialist. "We are excited to hold this event in collaboration with our partners and to put horses into good homes."

On June 16, viewing will be open to the public from noon to 6:00 p.m. Public viewing will continue on June 17 from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m., followed by a silent auction from 10:00 - 10:30 a.m. Bids will be awarded starting at 10:30 a.m. Bidders must be present on site and BLM staff can approve applications the day of the event.

Adoption incentives are available and wild horse training clinics will be available Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

The adoption event will be held at the Moffat County Fairgrounds, 640 East Victory Way in Craig. Due to safety concerns for personnel and horses, dogs or pets will not be allowed within the adoption arena.
