DCCC Statement on Shomari Figures’ Victory in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District Primary Election

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement after Shomari Figures won the runoff primary election in Alabama's newly redrawn Second Congressional District.

"Tonight, the voters of Alabama's Second Congressional District chose a proven champion in Shomari Figures to usher in a new era of representation from Mobile to Montgomery. This redrawn district delivers fair representation to the people of Alabama and brings us one step closer to regaining the House Majority.

"By affirming that states cannot force discriminatory districts at the expense of communities of color, last year's Supreme Court ruling upholds the Voting Rights Act. The redrawn Second Congressional District better reflects the diversity of Alabama, making clear that the voices of Black voters matter.

"I look forward to Shomari Figures winning in November and welcoming him to the House of Representatives to fight back against Republican extremism and continue our work for the American people."
