UNESCO Conducts Gender Equality Marker (GEM) Training to Celebrate 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

On the occasion of the start of the annual international campaign - 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, UNESCO Phnom Penh Office conducted a training on Gender Equality Marker (GEM) on 26 November 2021, for staff members, for promoting and strengthening Gender Equality and Women Empowerment through UNESCO's work.

The GEM training is for UN staff to develop a better understanding of the definitions of GEM and its coding criteria and application steps, to support project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation processes. The training also provided a platform for staff to familiarize with the practical application of the GEM coding criteria, and discuss and exchange ideas on possible challenges and key principles while applying the GEM, especially in the context of the upcoming exercises of reporting and joint work planning.

Gender Equality has been identified as a Global Priority for the Organization, and UNESCO has committed to making a positive and lasting contribution to women's empowerment and gender equality around the world through coordinated actions in its fields of competence in Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Culture and Communication & Information.
