Dr. Chris Hall, assistant professor of English, will give a post-leave presentation on research for his new book project from 7-8 p.m. on April 24 in the Robson Library 206.

In this talk, Hall will present research from his new book project begun during a Fall 2023 sabbatical, which is tentatively titled, "Life after Identity." The presentation emerges from that project's first chapter, "Life in the Dark Core." This chapter lays the groundwork for the book's argument for rethinking the intersection of life with politics, through a close reading of Virginia Woolf's novel "To the Lighthouse."

The project under discussion builds upon Hall's first book project, which is currently under review with the University of South Carolina Press. It comes on the heels of a series of new publications stemming from Hall's leave semester, including three peer-reviewed articles published earlier this year, all of which dwell upon the fallout of life and identity becoming the stakes for politics in the modern world. Further research from "Life after Identity" will be presented by Hall at this summer's Derrida Today conference in Athens, Greece.

The event is open to all members of the campus community. It will include a 20-30 minute presentation, followed by a Q&A.
