Funding for community infrastructure projects in Caraquet

CARAQUET (GNB) - The provincial and federal governments have allocated nearly $460,000 to two community infrastructure projects in the municipality of Caraquet.

"Community infrastructure is important for the well-being of residents and helps make the region welcoming to visitors," said Réjean Savoie, minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. "I am very pleased to work with our municipalities and non-profits to identify good projects and find funding for them through the Regional Development Corporation."

The provincial government is providing $182,000 for renovations to the community centre in the former local service district of Landry Office while the federal government is contributing $101,131. Renovations to the Club de l'âge d'or in the former Pokemouche district are being funded by $78,000 from the provincial government and $97,427 from the federal government.

"The benefits of the Canada Community Building Fund are clearly visible in our communities," said Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier. "Our federal government is proud to invest $198,000 in the renovation of the Landry Office community centre and the Pokemouche golden age club. These infrastructure projects will not only help stimulate the economy, they will also enable members of these communities to continue to gather, stay active and create wonderful memories. I also congratulate the municipality of Caraquet, which understands that maintaining these community centres on its territory is important for the well-being of its population."

Cormier attended for federal Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Minister Sean Fraser.

"These two projects confirm the role that the new municipality of Caraquet is called upon to play in all areas of the community," said Mayor Bernard Theriault. "Without the municipality's efforts and the support of both levels of government, these two projects would not have been possible."
