Hertfordshire Social Workers recognised in BASW’s Amazing Social Worker Awards

Published: 19 Apr 2024

Hertfordshire County Council is proud to announce that four of our Social Workers have received a nationwide award from the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the social work profession.

From our Adult Care Services Social Work team, Chantal Uwamahoro, Lisa Mullin, and Patience Tagarira have been recognised, with recently retired Sue Williams in our Children's Services team also being recognised as an 'Amazing Social Worker'.

Jo Fisher, Executive Director of Children's Services said: "We are so proud that Sue has been recognised as part of this prestigious award. Sue has recently retired but she has had an amazing career as a social worker with us and truly embodies our social work values. It is brilliant that her care and dedication to the children of Hertfordshire is being celebrated through such an important campaign with BASW"

Chantal Uwamahoro said about her award: "I feel honoured to be nominated by colleagues and shows how much I enjoy my role. Being nominated has helped me to boost my confidence in my role as a senior social worker."

Patience Tagarira said: "Receiving the news that I had been nominated as an amazing social worker was unexpected and came with mixed emotions. I was surprised, emotional, tearful, and happy."

Amazing Social Workers is a campaign championing the exceptional work happening across the UK social work profession. It is run by BASW, the UK's largest professional body for social work. The awards aim to shine a spotlight on the achievements of individuals and teams in the profession, whilst also highlighting the vital importance of social work to our communities.

We're always looking for future amazing social workers to join our team, with roles in both Children's and Adult Care Services. Our social work and early help support for families has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted, making Hertfordshire's Children's Services department one of the best in the country.
