Transfer with Camden: A Resident's Perspective

Looking to move to a new home? Whether you need more space or are looking to downsize, Camden's transfer program lets you move to a different apartment home, either within your same community or to a different community nationwide.

My husband and I got to experience this firsthand. We have been working towards purchasing our first home, but the timing was not aligning for us. We wanted to move to a bigger apartment from our one bedroom to have more space while we continue our house search. Thankfully we live at a Camden because the process was a cakewalk! Check out the details below to make your transfer as seamless as mine was!

Finding the Apartment that is Right for You

The first step in transferring is picking your new home! Reach out to your local Camden team and let them help you find the perfect home. They can pull up availability and review different locations with your best interest in mind to alleviate the stress that comes with moving.

If you are a busy bee and don't have the time to stop by the office, all of our available homes can be found on camdenliving.com. Make sure to add filters after searching your desired city, the website will filter everything and recommend an apartment that is just right!

Personally, I was looking to stay in Scottsdale, AZ. I did my research and looked at a few Camden communities, such as Camden San Marcos, Camden San Paloma, and Camden Foothills!

The Fine Print

You found the one but what's next? If you are transferring from one Camden community to another, touch base with your new community and your current community.

If you are transferring from one apartment home to another within the same community, reach out to the team where you live. The team will need to approve you for transfer, get all the proper documentation signed, and complete paper applications if applicable.

One of the benefits of staying with Camden is no additional application fees are required! All you have to do is pay an admin fee to hold your new apartment, but that fee will get credited towards your first month's rent once you move in. A 30-day notice is needed to transfer, which gives you extra flexibility instead of needing to provide a 60-day notice! Talk to your office for more details about any additional fees that may apply.

It's Almost Time

Your move-in date is right around the corner. You've been packing for weeks, and the reality of it all is finally settling in.

There are a few things to do before it is official! Get in contact with your electricitygas provider and cable/internet provider and update your renter's insurance. You will want to transfer over all policies and services to the new apartment. This part is painless and took me only a few minutes! Once everything is signed, paid, and transferred, you are ready to move into your new home!

Today's the Day

The day has finally come! It is time to move! Lucky for you, with everything done, it should be the easiest move yet. Moving in on a Sunday when the office is closed? No problem! I did the exact same thing! With Chirp Access, moving in is taken to a whole other level since you can do it all yourself. I was given access to my home, and the office team left my move-in folder and garage remotes for me in my new home with the cutest gift!
