Bismarck Fire Department responds to deck fire

At approximately 4:24 PM on Saturday June 19, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of an explosion and deck on fire in the 1100 block of Jefferson Avenue, in Bismarck. The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate. The first arriving fire crew arrived on scene to find fire showing from a second-floor deck. The fire condo was unoccupied at the time of the fire and occupants from neighboring units were evacuating.

The fire crew established command, deployed hose lines, and began an aggressive fire attack from the ground level. Additional fire crew arrived on scene and assisted with establishing a water supply, searching adjoining condos, and redeploying the hose line to the second-floor deck. When the fire was extinguished an overhaul operation was conducted to find any remaining smoldering materials.

Six fire department apparatus and 17 fire fighters were dispatched to the scene. The Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control. Metro Area Ambulance was on scene to provide medical support. The deck suffered major damage but the occupant was able to return. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
