UPDATE: ENTRY TO ITALY FROM THE USA

The Italian Ministry of Health Ordinance of 29 July 2021, effective from 31 July 2021 to 30 August 2021 reaffirms the regulations for entry into Italy from the United States set by the Ordinance of 18 June 2021 (GU General Series No.145 of 19 June 2021).

The certificates of vaccination and recovery issued by the United States health authorities are recognized as equivalent to the Italian certificates for both entry into Italy and use in Italy as stated in Art. 3 of the Decree of 23 July 2021.

-ENTRY INTO ITALY FROM THE UNITED STATES -

Entry into Italy from the United States is permitted by presenting, upon embarking to the carrier and subsequently to the competent Italian authorities, one of the three certificates described below:

  1. Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination, upon the completion of the prescribed cycle of at least 14 days of one of the vaccinations recognized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Proof of vaccination for those immunized in the United States is the 'white card' bearing a CDC logo; for those immunized in Italy, the COVID-19 Green Certificate.
  2. Recovery from COVID-19, with a medical certificate containing all relevant information;
  3. Negative Rapid Antigen Test or Molecular PCR Test carried out in the 48 hours prior to entering Italy: proof being a certificate from the laboratory that performed the test.
    • Entry from the United States with one of the above-mentioned certificates exempts travelers from fiduciary isolation (quarantine) upon arrival in Italy.
    • Minors travelling with a parent/caregiver carrying one of the above-mentioned certificates must take a COVID test prior to departure if aged 6 or older and not vaccinated; children younger than 6 are exempt from the COVID test requirement prior to departure.
    • All passengers entering Italy, including those with one of the above mentioned certificates, must fill out a digital locator form prior to departure. Another option for passengers who may experience technical difficulties is submitting a paper self-certification form.
    • Airlines are adapting to the new regulations. Travelers should contact their airline and inquire about additional requirements.
