Stefanik Votes to Support Maternal and Child Home Visiting Program

Washington, D.C. -Congresswoman Elise Stefanik today voted to advance the bipartisan Jackie Walorski Maternal and Child Home Visiting Reauthorization Act of 2022, which reauthorizes the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program.

The bill, which Stefanik cosponsored, increases support for services that aid new parents and their children from before birth through kindergarten with in-home support that has been proven to improve maternal and child health, family safety and stability, child development, and school readiness.

"I am proud to advance this legislation to provide support to our nation's families," Stefanik said. "As a new mother, I know the benefit of having support when raising a child. By expanding the home visit program through this bill, new parents can have improved access to in-home support, creating improved maternal health, family stability, and better child readiness to equip our future generation."

"By dedicating this bill my friend and former colleague, Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, we honor her legacy of commitment to our nation's most vulnerable children and families," Stefanik continued.

This bill reauthorizes MIECHV for five years, increases the annual funding level to $800 million in 2027 by phasing in state-matching funds, and provides increased investment in home visiting in every state and territory. It also updates program policies to provide an even stronger focus on improving outcomes for families and to provide clarity and stability for successful state and territorial programs.
