European Union Affairs Committee to hear from the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Ireland on the EU accession process

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet on Wednesday May 24^th for engagement with the Ambassador of Moldova on the European Union accession process.

H.E. Larisca Miculet, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Ireland will appear at the meeting which will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 10:00am to 12:30pm.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Colm Brophy said: "We welcome the opportunity to receive an update from the Ambassador on Moldova's EU membership application. Ireland has been a consistent support to Moldova in its efforts towards EU candidacy."

"Since Moldova was granted candidate status for EU membership by the European Council last June they have been diligently working to enhance its justice system, bolster energy security, increase resilience, counter hybrid threats, and make necessary preparations for EU accession."

"The invasion of Ukraine by Russia has had a significant impact on Moldova. We look forward to hearing the progress that has been made to date and discussing any challenges that may arise regarding the accession process."
