Hoyer Statement on Biden Selection of Shuwanza Goff as Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Legislative Affairs
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) issued the following statement today on President Biden's historic announcement that he has selected Shuwanza Goff to serve as Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Legislative Affairs:
"I was elated to hear President Biden's historic announcement that he has selected my dear friend Shuwanza Goff to serve as Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Legislative Affairs. She has an unrivaled understanding of Floor procedure, Congressional politics, and the dynamics between the Legislative and Executive branches. Crucially, I saw her character and integrity at work during her many years on my staff - including as the first African American woman Floor Director in U.S. history. Over the years, she became a close friend and one of my most trusted advisors.
"Shuwanza has built and maintained close relationships with Members and staff on both sides of the aisle and of the Capitol rotunda. Even those with different politics respect Shuwanza for her trustworthiness and pragmatism. From Members of leadership to Committee Chairs to key Administration officials, many people - myself included - have depended on Shuwanza for her political instincts and her ability to build consensus. She brought all of these virtues to bear as White House Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs. This new role is another good opportunity for Shuwanza to put her expertise to work in service of the American people. I am eager to see all that she will accomplish in this important new position."
