“We are the ones to blame and we have room for improvement”

February 12, 2024 10:31 PM

Pepe apologized to the fans after the defeat in Arouca (3-2)

FC Porto conceded the fourth defeat in the season for the championship, losing 3-2 in Arouca, and remains at 45 points in matchday 21. The result was "painful" for Pepe, who gave "credit to the opponent" and stressed the need to "continue to work, to feel the crest" to "give a much stronger response". "The next games will be very tough and we have to live up to this great club that is FC Porto", the captain warned.

Bad start
"We didn't start well, we conceded right in the first minute and this reflects what happened afterwards. We tried, we went all in, we were on top of Arouca's counter-attacks, but we weren't able to do what we had to do. I want to apologize to our fans, they have every reason to be frustrated. We feel it too and it's painful when we lose. We have to give credit to the opponent, today we had to give a little more as a team. We have to keep working, feel this crest and that's what we're going to try to do."

Self-criticism
"It is difficult to find words to explain such a situation. It's a very delicate moment for us, we were playing well, but we knew what our opponents did, and we had to go in much better and give a stronger response. We weren't able to do so, we are the ones to blame and we have to improve, look inside, because the next games will be very hard and we have to live up to this great club that is FC Porto."

Objective is difficult
"Obviously it is, but we never give up and, as long as there is this possibility, we will fight and give our best. We may not always succeed, as today, but we must have the team spirit, the sacrifice and the humility necessary to achieve the goals."
