Reschenthaler Applauds House Passage of the National Defense Authorization Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Chief Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2670, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024:

"As a Navy veteran, I understand how vital it is that our military has the resources it needs to deter our adversaries and protect our nation. This year's defense bill includes many significant conservative priorities championed by House Republicans, including the largest pay raise for our servicemembers in 20 years and the elimination of policies and programs promoting the woke ideology undermining our military readiness. While not a perfect plan, this legislation will combat evil worldwide, stand up for our troops, and ensure our nation's defense remains the strongest force the world has ever seen."

Specifically, the FY24 NDAA:
  • Supports servicemembers and their families by providing a 5.2 percent pay raise, the largest in 20 years.
  • Requires the Department of Defense (DOD) to correct personnel files of servicemembers discharged for not taking the COVID-19 vaccine so that they receive full benefits in retirement.
  • Reigns in Democrat efforts to inject wokeness into the military.
  • Supports America's allies and partners.
  • Strengthens readiness and lethality.
  • Counters adversarial threats.
  • Provides DOD support in securing the border.
Initiatives led by Reschenthaler were included in the bill, including:
  • Sense of Congress regarding the antisemitic efforts of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement against the State of Israel, including its efforts to delegitimize, isolate, and ultimately destroy the Jewish state.
  • Requiring a report on products sold at commissaries or exchange stores in FY21 or 22 that were produced by companies that participated in a boycott against the State of Israel.
  • Language supporting southwestern Pennsylvania priorities such as coal-derived materials and explosive welding in DOD.
