Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc receives LEGO leaders

(MPI) - Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc hosted a reception in Hanoi on February 22 for Preben Elnef, Vice President of the LEGO Group and General Manager of LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam and Jesper Hassellund Mikkelsen, Senior Vice President of the Danish toymaker.

Deputy Minister Ngoc applauded investment and business activities of the LEGO Group in Binh Duong province, especially its approach in building the carbon-neutral factory, and underlined the Vietnamese Government's interest in this typical model and always encourages other investors to invest.

The deputy minister expressed her belief that with the efforts of the LEGO group and drastic actions of Binh Duong province People's Committee, the project will be successful and not only brings financial benefits and jobs for thousands of local workers but also promote the economic development in Binh Duong.

The deputy minister asked the group continue to provide assistance for Vietnamese enterprises to join its supply chain; improve the added value and the rate of domestically made components in its resource and use Vietnamese workforce; strengthen on-site training for the local workers to take part in its production chain; coordinate closely with Binh Duong province People's Committee to have a plan to build social housing for workers.

The Vietnamese Government called on the Danish toymaker to become a long-term strategic investor in Vietnam and act as a bridge to connect with other strategic investors. The Ministry of Planning and Investment is committed to collaborating with relevant agencies, ministries, sectors and localities to resolve all difficulties and ensure the project is in accordance with Vietnam's law and regulations, creating all optimal conditions for the LEGO project, bringing successes to both sides.

Elnef thanked the support and close cooperation of the MPI in particular, and other agencies in general, adding that the LEGO project is being built following the planned schedule and expected to complete an important phase in 2024.

He said, the group has already began to seek thousands of workers for its factory operation, contributing to the province's job creation and revenue budget. The vice president touched upon the group's interest in building social housing model to provide all conditions for sustainable development in the local, as well as finding suitable resources and materials in Vietnam.

The LEGO group is always honored to receive the suport and close coordination of Vietnamese agencies, affirming that the group is and will actively promote Vietnam's image to other investors./.
