Eversheds Sutherland continues its expansion with two new Partners. On 1 May 2021, Daniel von Brevern will join the firm from McDermott Will & Emery and will further develop the antitrust service offering at Eversheds Sutherland's Dusseldorf office. Dr. Thomas Freund will join the finance practice group in Munich. He previously worked for Latham & Watkins.

Daniel von Brevern advises clients in all areas of antitrust law, in particular on merger control, on antitrust proceedings and within the framework of actions for damages under antitrust law. In addition, he focusses on investment control and European state aid law. Daniel von Brevern has profound experience in the automotive, energy, telecommunications as well as health & life sciences industries.

Dr. Thomas Freund has many years of expertise in complex national and cross-border acquisition financing and project financing matters, in particular in the energy sector, corporate financing as well as financial restructurings. He focusses in particular on providing advice to borrowers and lenders in unitranche financing projects. His clients include private equity funds, banks and debt funds.

'We are delighted to welcome Daniel von Brevern and Thomas Freund,' says Dr. Alexander Niethammer, Managing Partner of Eversheds Sutherland in Germany. 'They represent a targeted move to strengthen strategic growth areas in Germany and to consistently continue the dynamic expansion of the firm as well as of our transaction practice even in these challenging times.'

Daniel von Brevern explains: 'I was hugely impressed by the dynamic and impressive development of Eversheds Sutherland's Dusseldorf office. I look forward to joining the team and to further expanding the German antitrust practice as part of the global Eversheds Sutherland antitrust group together with my Partner Martin Bechtold.'

Thomas Freund adds: 'I was very impressed by the wide-ranging international Eversheds Sutherland network which provides an ideal framework for cross-border financing transactions. I am delighted to bring my expertise to such a dynamic environment and to contribute to the expansion of the financing and private equity practice.'

As of 1 May, Anthony Cross (Corporate/M&A, Munich), Nils Müller (Technology/Data Protection, Munich) and Dr. David Rieks (Commercial Criminal Law, Hamburg) from Eversheds Sutherland's own ranks have also been appointed as Partners and seven lawyers have been promoted to Counsel level. This means that 49 Partners now work at the four German offices in Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Munich.
