Yezidi women conference in the European Parliament

30 January, 2024
On January 30, the Yezidi women conference entitled "Sinjar - a society threatened by genocide- Reconstruction as a guarantee for peace in the Middle East" took place in the European Parliament.
Among the speakers were Nujiyan Günay, Spokesperson of the Umbrella Organization of the Yezidi Women's Councils, Members of the European Parliament Özlem Demirel, Katrin Langensiepen and Lorena López de Lacalle, the Secretary of the European Women's Lobby Organization Mary Collins as well as the Member of the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium Georges Dallemagne.
Tigran Balayan, Head of the Mission of Armenia to the EU, took the floor and also made a speech at the conference. He mentioned that Armenia always stands by its Yezidi brothers and sisters and is the voice of Yezidis in the international arena, which is embodied by the presence of the largest Yezidi temple in Armenia.
The Ambassador underscored that Armenia has been and will continue to be the voice of the Yezidis on various international platforms and will speak out about the criminal acts committed against them and about the need to bring the perpetrators of the crime to account.
In his speech, Ambassador Balayan also emphasized that the terrorists who conduct a genocidal policy against the Yezidis profess the same ideology as the forces that carried out an ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh in front of the eyes of the international community and are now threatening to attack Armenia.
According to the Ambassador, the neutrality of the international community is perceived as a green light by executioners, and the violence will continue unless the perpetrators of crime face serious consequences.
