5 Questions for Michael Sicklinger, Arista Networks

In an eco-member interview, Michael Sicklinger from Arista Networks GmbH talks about how automation can reduce cost pressures in companies while still meeting high security requirements.

Mr Sicklinger, could you please give us a brief introduction to your company, Arista?

Arista Networks is an industry-leading provider of networking and security products for data centres, campuses and routing environments with a focus on quality, stability and automation. With over 8,000 customers including cloud titans, industrial companies, financial service providers, healthcare companies, educational institutions, service providers and hosting companies, Arista is the company is the market leader in the data centre environment.

What digitalisation topics are particularly important to you?

Automation is at the forefront of digitalisation. The path to achieving this cannot be mastered overnight but requires careful planning. We see standardisation as the initial step towards automation. That's why, all of Arista's hardware and software products are based on open standards and we completely avoid proprietary protocols.

What are the particular challenges in your industry at the moment and how are you working on them?

We observe an increasing shortage of resources and significant cost pressure in companies of all sizes and industries. Automation with CloudVision is the key to operating more efficiently and eliminating many routine tasks. By using a single operating system (single binary image) across all platforms, we can assure high quality, security and reliability. This enables us to meet the growing security demans of our customers.

How do you expect your membership of the eco Association to support you in this regard?

We look forward to lively interactions with the eco community, which already includes many Arista customers, and to many successful joint events.

What opportunities does digitalisation offer us in the future?

Current economic developments in traditional German industrial sectors show us that digitalisation is the key to the future-proof transformation of Germany as a business location.
