The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, today received a visit from the Colombian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Laura Sarabia, in Madrid, an opportunity to exchange views on the current situation and to deepen bilateral relations between the two nations.
Albares and Sarabia had the chance to discuss the major current geopolitical challenges, such as the crises in Ukraine and Palestine, as well as the major events to take place in the near future. Among them is the upcoming EU-CELAC Summit, scheduled for next November in Colombia.
Another major high-level event is the IV International Conference on Financing for Development, which will take place in Seville from 30 June to 3 July. This event will also feature an extraordinary meeting of Ibero-American Ministers for Foreign Affairs -to which Albares has extended an invitation to the Colombian Minister for Foreign Affairs-in order to listen to the opinions and concerns of the Ibero-American community.
Albares further emphasised the importance of the Ibero-American Summit 2026, which will also be hosted by Spain and will be held in Madrid.
The Colombian Minister for Foreign Affairs's visit follows on from President Petro's State visit in May 2023, highlighting the excellent relations that exist between the two countries.
