Winners announced for the 2024 WA Volunteer of the Year Awards

  • Seven volunteers and organisations honoured at the 2024 WA Volunteer of the Year Awards
  • The Awards celebrate extraordinary volunteers in Western Australia
  • Held as part of National Volunteer Week (20-26 May), which celebrates volunteers with this year's theme 'Something for Everyone'

Volunteering Minister Don Punch has congratulated the seven outstanding volunteers honoured at the 2024 WA Volunteer of the Year Awards last night.

Hosted by Volunteering WA as part of National Volunteer Week, the Awards recognise the significant contributions made by volunteers and organisations.

The 21 finalists were shortlisted from 230 nominations received across Western Australia. This year's winners included:

  • RAC WA Volunteer of the Year - Peter Geraghty, St John WA;
  • WA Young Volunteer of the Year - Zac Cawdron, Youth At Risk Network, Department of Communities;
  • WA Excellence in Volunteer Management - Alanagh Godderidge, Motion by the Ocean;
  • WA Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering - Joan Ward, volunteering for 74 years;
  • WA Inclusive Volunteering Award - First Hike Project;
  • WA Community Volunteer Organisation of the Year - Worthy Australia; and
  • WA Excellence in Corporate Volunteering - Bankwest.

The Cook Government is committed to supporting and strengthening the volunteer sector in WA, allocating Volunteering WA a $425,000 Lotterywest grant to host the Awards and to administer a small grants scheme for National Volunteer Week celebrations.

This year, 254 organisations around the State have shared in $335,000 of the Lotterywest funding to recognise their volunteers throughout the week.

Held from 20-26 May, National Volunteer Week celebrates volunteers, with this year's theme 'Something for Everyone'.
