N.M. Congressional Delegation Welcomes Over $9 Million for Upgrades at ABQ Sunport, Clovis Regional Airport

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.), Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.), are welcoming over $9 million in funding from the Infrastructure Law for upgrades at the Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) and Clovis Regional Airport (CVN).

The Sunport will receive $5.8 million in federal funds for upgrades to in-line baggage systems, hold rooms, and terminal interior and exterior spaces. Clovis will receive $3.5 million in federal funds to help with design and construction costs of a new terminal building.

"When we invest in New Mexico's airports, we invest in the people who rely on these facilities to do business in our state, create jobs, and contribute to our economy," said Heinrich, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. "I'm proud to welcome over $9 million from the Infrastructure Law to modernize the Albuquerque Sunport and Clovis Regional Airport, improve travelers' experiences, and drive our state's economic growth for the future."

"Our state's airports play a crucial role in bolstering local economies and serving as transportation hubs. That's why investing in New Mexico's airports is essential to improve travel and boost economic opportunities," said Luján. "As a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, I'm proud to welcome over $9 million in federal investments to our state airports. From Albuquerque to Clovis, these investments will modernize infrastructure and enhance travel."

"I am so excited to welcome and announce that New Mexico will be receiving over $9 million in grants to help improve our local airports," said Leger Fernández. "This investment, especially the $3.5 million awarded to Clovis Regional Airport will help New Mexicans be more connected, create new jobs, and help our communities grow. When I met with the Mayor of Clovis earlier this year, he talked to me about the importance of the Clovis Regional Airport to military personnel and their families who serve our country at Cannon Air Force Base. I am happy that these federal funds will soon help them spend more time with their families thanks to Clovis Regional's expansion."

"Our airports are one of our major lifelines for trade, travel, and the economy," said Stansbury. "Thanks to the Biden-Harris Administration, airports in Albuquerque and Clovis are getting $9 million for upgrades they need to keep New Mexico connected to the rest of the world. These funds are pivotal to keep that lifeline going!"

"This multi million dollar investment into the Albuquerque Airport will help connect our communities across the state and country," said Vasquez. "I am proud to continue to welcome federal investments to New Mexico. Investing in our infrastructure ensures we have a stronger state for future generations."
