This Doctors' Day, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital is honoring their physicians by donating $6,000 to local charities selected by the medical staff. The physicians voted earlier this month and selected Medical Oncology Associates Prescription Assistance Fund and Volunteers in Medicine.

"We are grateful to the doctors on our medical staff for the steadfast care provided to the thousands of patients our hospital and clinics treat each year throughout the community," said Chris Howe, interim CEO Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. "It is humbling to once again see them give back to the community we serve as we seek to honor them on National Doctors' Day."

Medical Oncology Associates Prescription Assistance Fund received a donation of $3,000. The fund was established to assist cancer patients in need to obtain medications, services and other items beneficial to their care.

Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) received a donation of $3,000. Their mission is to help meet the primary health care needs of the working uninsured and the underinsured populations in Luzerne County. VIM has successfully provided free comprehensive patient-centered care to eligible patients for 15 years.

On Thursday, March 28, hospital leadership presented checks to selected Medical Oncology Associates Prescription Assistance Fund and Volunteers in Medicine in honor of Doctors' Day on March 30.
