Hoeven Votes to Confirm General Allvin as Air Force Chief of Staff

WASHINGTON - Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement after voting to confirm General David Allvin as Air Force Chief of Staff.

"North Dakota plays a central role in our nation's Air Force operations, being home to not only two nuclear missions in Minot, but also key unmanned missions in Grand Forks and with the Air Guard in Fargo" said Hoeven. "We thank General Allvin for his long-time service to the Air Force, including as Vice Chief of Staff, and welcome him to this new, well-earned role. We look forward to continuing our efforts with him to ensure North Dakota's missions receive the support and upgraded capabilities they need to keep our country safe and deter the aggressions of our adversaries, now and for years to come."

Prior to today's confirmation, Allvin served as the Vice Chief of Staff for the Air Force. Hoeven worked with the general in this role to advance critical priorities for missions in North Dakota, including:

  • Modernizing the dual nuclear missions in Minot.
    • Hoeven is working to keep the nuclear modernization programs on track, having secured full funding for the efforts in the Senate's Fiscal Year 2024 Defense Appropriations legislation.
  • Ensuring future investment in the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) mission in Grand Forks.
    • Hoeven also secured an agreement with Gen. Charles Q. Brown, the previous Air Force Chief of Staff, to transfer the Global Hawk Block 30 aircraft to Grand Sky for the Sky Range hypersonic missile testing program.
  • Upgrading the MQ-9 Reaper flown by the North Dakota Air National Guard in Fargo.
