Walmart Celebrates the Largest Shopping Event for Products Manufactured, Grown and Assembled in Mexico

BENTONVILLE, Ark. and MEXICO CITY, April 25, 2024 - Walmart de México y Centroamérica celebrated the second consecutive year of the Walmart Growth Summit México event. The 2024 edition featured the participation of close to 350 small, medium and large companies from the country. Finalist companies will have the opportunity to join Walmart's supplier network.

The Walmart Growth Summit Mexico is the largest purchasing event that Walmart holds for products manufactured, grown, and assembled in Mexico. Its goal is to boost the growth of local economies and promote direct purchasing from suppliers in the country.

With the support of various federal and local authorities to maximize the promotion of this program, the second edition of the Walmart Growth Summit Mexico received product proposals from the 32 states of the country, from companies registered for the program between January 15 and on February 16, 2024. Those that met the quality and commercial criteria advanced in the process to participate in the event on April 25. During the event, participants engaged in learning and connection sessions with different areas of Walmart Mexico, such as Global Sourcing and Walmart International Marketplace. They also had 30-minute individual meetings to present their products to the Walmart Mexico Purchasing team.

In the previous edition of this initiative, more than 800 supplier proposals were received, of which over 350 were preselected. Among the finalist companies, around 30% continued in their process of incorporating into Walmart's supplier network, with 18% supplying in self-service stores and 13% selling online.

In 2023, approximately 84% of the merchandise sold in Mexico was purchased within the country. Similarly, more than 85% of the suppliers for self-service stores are small- and medium-sized companies in the country. In Mexico, Walmart has more than 33,000 suppliers, with over 3,400 new companies added in 2023.

The Walmart Growth Summit is an initiative that originated ten years ago in the United States, under the name Walmart Open Call, an open invitation to local suppliers to be part of its supplier network. In 2023, Walmart Mexico celebrated this initiative for the first time. This year, Walmart India and Walmart Chile are replicating this opportunity for local suppliers, in February and May, respectively.
