Today (21st), Chunghwa Telecom teamed up with Tai Tzu-Ying, a Taiwanese badminton star, to host a tree planting event in the coastal area of Luzhu, Taoyuan. Chunghwa Telecom's Chairman, Kuo Shui-Yi, led the management and the employees to attend the event with guests including Cheng Wen-Tsan, Vice Premier of Executive Yuan, Chen Chi-Chung, Minister of Council of Agriculture, and Lin Hwa-Ching, General Director of Forestry Bureau. To carry out environmental and ecological protection with practical action, 2,950 plants will be planted in this area to protect our planet. Chunghwa Telecom has initiated its "Winning Matches, Planting Trees" project since 2022, and invited Tai Tzu-Ying as the ambassador of sustainable development todevote to environmental sustainability together. In late April, Tai Tzu-Ying won the champion of 2023 Badminton Asia Championships, defeating elite players from around the world and impressing people in Taiwan again with her fighting spirit. To celebrate her championship, Chunghwa Telecom announced today that the tree donation will be raised from 100 to 1,000 per champion that Tai Tzu-Ying win. In addition, Chunghwa Telecom also announced its plan to expand the nationwide afforestation and tree adoption project with an aim of 150,000 trees in 8 years, thereby promoting natural habitat conservation, protecting biodiversity, and reducing carbon emission for our planet.

"Winning Matches, Planting Trees" to recreate habitat of endangered endemic species in Taiwan and protect biodiversity ecosystem

As part of Chunghwa Telecom's "Winning Matches, Planting Trees" three-year afforestation project, the forest areas in Yilan, Taoyuan, Chiayi, and Tainan have been chosen to adopt trees this year (2023). The tree planting activities were kicked off in April when Chunghwa Telecom's volunteers planted Taiwan Sassafras in the forest of Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area in Yilan. Planting this kind of tree providing the only habitat to Papilio maraho, an endemic species of butterfly in Taiwan, and recreating the ecosphere for this endangered butterfly species. Through such tree planting activities, Chunghwa Telecom not only help conserve endangered species and protect biodiversity, but also raise public awareness of the importance of endemic Taiwanese species, hoping to let the next generation live sustainably in the beautiful planet.

Chunghwa Telecom's "Winning Matches, Planting Trees" three-year afforestation project was proceeded in the Luzhu coastal area in Taoyuan today (21st). 2,950 trees are planted in the area, which is helpful for the protection of coastal ecosphere and for soil and water conservation. Chunghwa Telecom's Chairman, Kuo Shui-Yi came to the Luzhu coastal area today and planted the first batch of tree saplings together with guests on the site. He said, "Chunghwa Telecom has a clear goal of green ecosphere and low-carbon sustainability. We will spare no efforts to pursue this goal, just as Tai Tzu-Ying gives her all for every shot in her matches. Chunghwa Telecom actively commits its core competencies, technologies, resources, capabilities, and special features to the energy saving technology . By procuring and constructing green power systems and developing innovative, efficient, and intelligent energy saving management system, Chunghwa Telecom effectively reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, and put environmental protection into practice. Government acknowledges Chunghwa Telecom's actions for carbon reduction

Vice Premier of Executive Yuan Cheng Wen-Tsan stated that the government highly values sustainable development issue and is accelerating the work of carbon reduction. In this January, the Legislative Yuan passed the Climate Change Response Act on third reading, making 2050 Net Zero Emissions Goal legal requirement. Apart from promoting relevant policies, the government also urges enterprises to help promote environmental protection and be active in Green environmental activities. The government appreciated Chunghwa Telecom for its assistance to the government's restoration project of key national forests and coastal forests; for its actions taken to put the carbon reduction principle into practice; for its cooperation with the Forest Bureau of the Council of Agriculture to afforest the lands and promote planting of endemic tree species around Taiwan. From primeval forests in high mountains to ecological afforestation in the foothills as well as coastal windbreaks, planting suitable trees for the right place helps create high-quality habitats and maintain Taiwan's biodiversity.

Having already adopted 4,000 trees, Chunghwa Telecom announces donation of more trees and a larger project of planting 150,000 trees in 8 years

Last year (2022), Chunghwa Telecom announced the three-year tree planting and afforestation project of "Winning Matches, Planting Trees" , promising to donate 100 trees for each badminton match won by Tai Tzu-Ying during the three-year period. Since the project begun, Tai Tzu-Ying has won nearly 40 matches so far, resulting in donations of 4,000 trees in total. To celebrate Tai Tzu-Ying's championship at the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships, Chunghwa Telecom announced to plant more trees by raising donation from 100 to 1,000 per matchfor any tournament in which Tai Tzu-Ying wins a championship. Chunghwa Telecom also plans to expand afforestation project by aiming to plant 150,000 trees in 8 years. Today, as itsambassador of sustainable development, Tai Tzu-Ying called on her fans to join in planting trees for environment protection.
