Yard Waste Collection Resumes the Week of Monday, March 13, 2023

The City of Joliet and Waste Management announce weekly yard waste collection will begin on Monday, March 13, and run through Friday, December 8, 2023.

All garbage and recycling carts, including yard waste, must be placed at the curb or alley prior to 7:00 a.m. the day of collection. Yard waste consists of: grass clippings, leaves, shrubbery cuttings, tree branches (less than three inches in diameter), and brush.

Yard waste should be prepared in the following manner for collection:

  • Brush and branches must be cut into 4-foot lengths and securely bundled with string or twine

  • Each bundle must not exceed 50 pounds

  • Unbundled brush and branches will not be collected

Yard waste must be placed in either 30-gallon brown paper yard waste bags or in clearly labeled 32-gallon containers. Non-standard containers such as drums, baskets, etc. will not be collected. Residents can also rent or purchase 96-gallon yard waste carts by contacting the Waste Management Customer Service Center at (815) 280-7854.

Please note, non-acceptable items include: dirt, stone, concrete, rock, whole trees, stumps, sod, and tree limbs greater than 3 inches in diameter.

All 32-gallon containers used for yard waste must be properly labeled. YARD WASTE ONLY labels are available at no charge at the following locations:

  • Joliet City Hall (150 W Jefferson St)

  • Jewel-Osco (1401 W Jefferson St, 1537 N Larkin Ave, and 2480 IL. RT. 59)
