State Secretary Štucin holds talks with representatives of the Italian Republic

State Secretary Marko Štucin paid a working visit to Rome today to meet with the Italian Minister for European Affairs, Raffaele Fitto, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, and the Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of the Interior, Wanda Ferro.

State Secretary Štucin and Minister Fitto exchanged views on current European issues and preparations for the next European Council, including migration. They also focused on energy and infrastructure connectivity and the Western Balkan region, including EU enlargement, stressing the imperative for unity of the international community in continuing to support Ukraine.

Together with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Cirielli, they confirmed the close bilateral relations and regular dialogue between Slovenia and Italy, and underlined the importance of the two national communities and their integration potential for relations between the two countries. Furthermore, they agreed on the importance of cooperation within the Coordination Committee of Ministers between Slovenia and Italy, which discusses bilateral cooperation topics, and expressed support for collaboration in the fields of energy, infrastructure and management of migration flows. Finally, they recognised the two countries have convergent positions on the Western Balkans and support for EU enlargement to include the Western Balkans.

State Secretary Štucin and State Undersecretary Ferro discussed matters related to the Slovenian national community in Italy and proposed that the institutional working group for discussing matters relating to the Slovenian national community be convened at the earliest possible opportunity. They also exchanged views on migration and stressed the importance of dialogue and solidarity.
