  • James Earl Jones Theatre | Midtown Manhattan | September 2022
    • Formerly the Cort Theatre, the newly restored and named theater is now dedicated to one of the most beloved Broadway and film actors, James Earl Jones. This is the second major Broadway theater to be named after a Black artist. In April 2023, the theater will be home to ROOMon Broadway featuring the return of Tony Award winner, Adrienne Warren, based on the best-selling novel and award-winning film.
  • Jackie Robinson Museum| SoHo, Manhattan | September 2022
    • Celebrating the baseball legend's contributions to the civil rights movement, the new cultural organization in Soho includes a 75-seat theater, two flexible galleries to host traveling exhibits, a classroom and more.
  • Hall des Lumières | Lower Manhattan | September 2022
    • The first permanent center for custom-designed immersive art experiences in the City recently celebrated its opening with the inaugural exhibition, Gustav Klimt: Gold in Motion, a journey through the golden and revolutionary art of the acclaimed Viennese painter.

    • The long-awaited revitalization of the iconic David Geffen Hall, home of the New York Philharmonic, has opened and welcomed back patrons. Tatiana, a restaurant helmed by Top Chef star Kwame Onwuachi, has also opened to accompany the new space.
  • Museum of Chinese in America | Chinatown, Manhattan | October 2022
    • The Museum of Chinese in America reopened its doors to the general public this past October.   • Museum of Broadway | Times Square, Manhattan | November 2022
    • The new museum in Times Square has dazzled Midtown Manhattan with a deeper look into the details of NYC's Theater District transition from Lower Manhattan to Midtown, how a show is made and its theatrical eras.
  • The recently opened Bronx Children's Museum - located just steps from Yankee Stadium - is poised to welcome nearly 75,000 children annually with a café onsite and programming to celebrate curiosity.
  • Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation at the American Museum of Natural History | Upper West Side, Manhattan | February 2023
    • Beginning February 17, guests can enjoy a new exhibition and active scientific and educational institution at the American Museum of Natural History. The Gilder Center will feature learning spaces with state-of-the-art technology and access to the museum's world-class collections. Additionally, students will have access to the museum's resources, offering new learning opportunities and advance public science education and scientific literacy.
  • New Center at the Louis Armstrong House Museum | Corona, Queens | Spring 2023
    • After undergoing a physical and programmatic expansion, the Louis Armstrong House Museum will debut a new cultural center with an interactive exhibit, archival collections, 68-seat jazz club and store, all dedicated to celebrating and preserving the life and legacy of the legendary jazz musician, Louis Armstrong.
  • The 18th-century farmhouse and New York City landmark, Lefferts Historic House Museum, continues its restoration. Reopening mid-2023, the museum will present free pilot exhibits and programs that engage with the legacies of Indigenous dispossession enslavement in Brooklyn.
  • 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop | Citywide | 2023
    • This year marks the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip hop music, founded in the Bronx on August 11, 1973, when Clive Campbell-better known as DJ Kool Herc-spun records at his sister's birthday party. Throughout the year, the City will celebrate with soon-to-be announced events celebrating hip hop.
  • Apollo Performing Arts Center | Harlem, Manhattan | 2023
    • The iconic theater is expanding for the first time, with the Victoria Theater Redevelopment Project that will introduce two new stages, creating an arts campus in Harlem.
  • 100th Anniversary of Museum of the City of New York | East Harlem, Manhattan | 2023
    • The Museum of the City New York celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The museum has amassed a collection of over 750,000 objects including photographs, prints, costumes, paintings and more to celebrate, document and interpret the City's past, present and future.
  • 75th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Institute of America | Upper East Side, Manhattan | 2023
    • The nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the art, music and literature of Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2023.
  • The Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center at the World Trade | Lower Manhattan | 2023
    • Projected to open in early 2023, the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC) will be home for emerging and established artists in theater, music, opera, dance, film and media. The PAC will celebrate life and humanity and become a cultural destination in Lower Manhattan.
  • Universal Hip Hop Museum | South Bronx, The Bronx | 2024
    • Located just south of Yankee Stadium, this space will pay homage to the South Bronx's rich culture and history as the birthplace of hip-hop.
  • The American LGBTQ+ Museum| Upper West Side, Manhattan | 2024
    • The New-York Historical Society will incorporate a museum dedicated to LGBTQ+ history. Slated to open in 2024, The American LGBTQ+ Museum will be NYC's first museum dedicated to showcasing global, national and local LGBTQ+ history and culture.
  • Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center| West Village, Manhattan | 2024
  • The first visitor center within the national park system dedicated to LGBTQ+ history will open in New York City in 2024. The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center will honor and explore the history of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and will be located at a storefront in Greenwich Village, next door to the historic Stonewall Inn.

    • This exhibition highlights the City's raucous and diverse food culture all while examining the various challenges of NYC's food systems. From sustainability to equitable access to food, the exhibition explores the ways artists and designers are creating solutions to address the global and local challenges we face when it comes to the food system.
  • Charisse Pearlina Weston: of [a] tomorrow: lighter than air, stronger than whiskey, cheaper than dust.at Queens Museum | Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens | Through March 5, 2023
    • Charisse Pearlina Weston's first solo museum presentation displays the artist's new work as she reimagines and posits Black interior life as a central figure of Black resistance. The exhibition showcases Weston's artistic investigation into the symbolic uses of glass within architecture, media, and surveillance and the role it plays in anti-Black violence.
  • Just Above Midtown: Changing Spacesat The Museum of Modern Art | Midtown Manhattan | Through February 18, 2023
    • On the third floor Edward Steichen Galleries, an exhibition highlighting Just Above Midtown (JAM) will be featured through February 18. JAM was an art gallery and Black space that welcomed artists and visitors of various generations and backgrounds in NYC from 1974-1986, created by Linda Goode Bryant in 1974, with a mission to create a space for Black artists to be celebrated.
  • Edward Hopper's New Yorkat the Whitney Museum of American Art | Meatpacking District, Manhattan | Through March 5, 2023
    • Now on display, Edward Hopper's New York is a comprehensive look into the life and work of the famed artist, through his city pictures and early impressions of New York City in prints, illustrations, sketches and late paintings.
  • Swagger and Tenderness: The South Bronx Portraits by John Ahearn and Rigoberto Torresat The Bronx Museum of the Arts | Concourse Village, The Bronx | Through April 30, 2023
    • For over four decades, local artists John Ahearn and Rigoberto Torres have become known for their portraits of their South Bronx neighbors. For the first time, The Bronx Museum of the Arts is hosting a large collection of these artworks exhibited together and showcasing the creative and loving residents of the South Bronx.

    • The Brooklyn Museum is presenting the first retrospective to explore the edgy and fascinating universe of beloved French designer and visionary Thierry Mugler.     • Coinciding with the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Maria, the Whitney Museum of American History is presenting the first major US museum survey of Puerto Rican art in nearly 50 years. The exhibition explores how artists have been impacted by the transformative years since the storm by showcasing over 50 artworks made over the last five years from more than 15 artists from Puerto Rico.
  • Guillermo del Toro: Crafting Pinocchioat The Museum of Modern Art | Midtown Manhattan | Through April 15, 2023
  • MoMA is presenting an exhibition devoted to the craft and process behind one of the most celebrated filmmakers of our time, Guillermo del Toro, and his first stop-motion animation film. To round out the exhibition, the museum will also be screening Pinocchio and hosting a Carte Blanche series curated by the director in March 2023.

    • Opening in February 2023, Craft Front & Center: Exploring the Permanent Collection will be an ongoing exhibition of the Museum of Arts and Design's growing permanent collection of over 3,500 objects. The exhibit will feature a fresh installation of more than 60 historic works and new acquisitions dating from the golden age of the American Craft movement to the present day.

    • A former student in NYBG's Adult Education program, acclaimed artist Lily Kwong is this year's designer for the 20th iteration of The Orchid Show. This year will present a meditative and captivating design inspired by her ancestral connections to the natural world.
  • Sarah Sze: Timelapseat the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum | Carnegie Hill, Manhattan | March 31-September 10, 2023
    • For this solo exhibition, Sarah Sze will create a series of site-specific installations that weave a trail of discovery through multiple spaces of the Guggenheim's iconic Frank Lloyd Wright building.

    • Vulnerable Landscapes will center on the Staten Island shorelines at the forefront of climate change in New York City. The site-specific exhibition examines the past while navigating the route forward.
  • Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beautyat The Metropolitan Museum of Art | Upper East Side, Manhattan | May 5-July 16, 2023
    • The Costume Institute's spring 2023 exhibition will examine the work of Karl Lagerfeld with the upcoming exhibition Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. Highlighting the designer's body of work spanning from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019, the show will have approximately 150 pieces on display.
  • Shakespeare in the Park presents: Hamlet at The Public Theater | Central Park, Manhattan | June 8-August 6, 2023
    • The Public Theater recently unveiled that the 61st season of Free Shakespeare in the Park at The Delacorte Theater in Central Park will feature the classic drama Hamlet, directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon and featuring Tony Award nominee Ato Blankson-Wood in the title role.

    • This summer, it was announced that New York City, along with the state of New Jersey, will be the host city for The Army-Navy Football Game presented by USAA in 2026. The game will be hosted at the Meadowlands Complex as part of the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and will be the 19th time the game has been played in New York or New Jersey.

    • This summer, it was announced that New York City, along with the state of New Jersey, will be the host city for The Army-Navy Football Game presented by USAA in 2026. The game will be hosted at the Meadowlands Complex as part of the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and will be the 19th time the game has been played in New York or New Jersey.

    • As part of a private-public partnership, NYCFC will fully finance and build New York's first professional soccer-specific stadium. The Willets Point project will have 25,000 seats and will bring 2,500 affordable homes to the community.

  • Located in the new Moynihan Food Hall, THE BAR is a full-service beer, wine and cocktail outlet in the recently renovated Moynihan Train Station. The main bar, clad in American walnut and polished brass, is reminiscent of the grand railway stations of the last century, having opened to the public in January 2022 and welcoming commuters, travelers, locals and more through its doors.

    • Actors Nicholas Braun and Pete Davidson, along with a team of nightlife veterans, are behind a new bar located in a historic four-story townhouse in Midtown Manhattan near Rockefeller Center. Pebble Bar is the latest celebrity sighting hot spot in the City offering classic cocktails inspired by its location.
  • Connolly's Bar | Rockaway Beach, Queens | May 2022
    • A beloved Irish pub among surfers in Far Rockaway since 1962 recently reopened with new owners. The bar is best known for its iconic piña colada topped with a maraschino cherry, which is still featured on the menu.

  • Cipriani, a New York City staple, brought its new food hall concept to Manhattan with the grand opening of Harry's Table in June 2022. Harry's Table is a 28,000-square-foot hall, featuring specialty counters including a coffee bar, a gelato and pastry shop, a pizza bar, a pasta lab, a fish counter, a butcher's counter.

    • The first LGBTQ+ fine dining eatery opened its door in July in the East Village.     • Tin Building | Seaport District, Manhattan | August 2022
    • This historic site that originally housed the Fulton Fish Market in 1835 has been rebuilt to accommodate a seafood-themed market in The Seaport, by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Eight years in the making, the restored historic building is now home to six full-service restaurants, six fast-casual spots, four bars and retail stores.
  • Playa Gelato | South Bronx, The Bronx | August 2022
    • The first gelato shop in the South Bronx opened this summer, offering customers over 50 different hand-made flavors. The shop also offers vegan gelato, sugar-free gelato, sorbet, milkshakes and even dog-friendly flavors called "Woof-lato."
  • Ju Qi | Flushing, Queens | August 2022
    • The Beijing-based chain opened its first flagship US outpost this August at the new Tangram mall. The 6,000 square feet restaurant will serve signature dishes including roast duck, roast mutton, durian desserts and braised pork meatballs.
  • Delmas48 | Randall Manor, Staten Island | September 2022
    • Dèlmas Karant-Uit, or Delmas48, is a new restaurant bringing the flavors of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, to Staten Island. Diners can enjoy Haitian-inspired dishes such as the Bel Air Burger and the vegan-friendly Léogâne Spicy Alfredo.
  • Urban Hawker | Midtown Manhattan | September 2022
    • An authentic Singaporean Hawker Center is opening in the City on September 28. Curated by KF Seetoh, a Singaporean food expert, the highly anticipated food hall will be the first in the US and will feature 17 vendors.
  • Jōji | Midtown Manhattan | September 2022
    • Daniel Boulud and former Masa chef George Ruan recently opened Jōji, an 18-seat omakase restaurant, in an alcove under Grand Central Terminal. The new restaurant will serve courses showcasing seasonal ingredients along with sake and wine pairings.
  • Brooklyn Dumpling Shop | West Brighton, Staten Island | October 2022
    • The popular Brooklyn Dumpling Shop opened its first ever Staten Island outpost in the borough's West Brighton neighborhood.
  • 50 Norman | Williamsburg, Brooklyn | October 2022
    • The first destination, Dashi Okume, a 20-seat Tokyo based counter and three-in-one 3,500-square-foot restaurant recently opened its doors in Williamsburg. The counter, known for its Tsukiji Fish Market location, offers items available for dining in or to go. Next door is a lifestyle shop Cibone, selling plateware, kitchen items and work by Japanese artists. And lastly, the tiny House, a six-seat restaurant featuring French Japanese fare, began welcoming diners in October 2022.
  • Tatiana | Upper West Side, Manhattan | October 2022
    • Top Chef star and Bronx native Kwame Onwuachi returned to NYC with a restaurant at Lincoln Center as part of the new David Geffen Hall. Tatiana serves Afro Caribbean fare, infused with New York influences. Menu items include braised oxtail, egusi soup dumplings and truffle-spiked chopped cheese.
  • Lord's | Greenwich Village, Manhattan | October 2022
    • The team behind Dame has opened a second spot serving English fare. Lord's is an English bistro with a menu featuring charcuterie, meat pies and beef wellington.
  • Five Acres| Midtown Manhattan | December 2022
    • The latest opening from acclaimed chef Greg Baxtrom, Five Acres, opened in the heart of New York City's bustling Rockefeller Center. The new restaurant offers creative seasonal menus and an ethereal design with vibrant greenery, a nod to Baxtrom's five-acre family farm outside of Chicago.
  • JuneShine Taproom | Williamsburg, Brooklyn | December 2022
    • Southern California-based company, JuneShine, recently landed in Williamsburg for its first East Coast outpost. The 64-seat taproom offers 10 hard kombuchas in pints and flights, with flavors like honey-ginger and blood orange-mint on deck.
  • Pure Grit BBQ| Prospect Heights, Brooklyn | January 2023
    • Brooklyn's famed Barclays Center has welcomed its first vegan vendor with the fast-casual vegan barbecue restaurant, Pure Grit BBQ, with a menu offering jackfruit nachos, smoked Impossible cut brisket and fried tofu bites.

  • Marsha P. Johnson State Park | Williamsburg, Brooklyn | 2023
    • In February 2022, East River State Park was renamed in honor of Marsha P. Johnson, a transgender woman of color who was a pioneer of the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement and a central figure in the Stonewall Uprising. The design for a new gateway for the park was recently announced, with construction beginning this past fall and scheduled completion in 2023.
  • Hudson River Park's Pier 97 | Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan | Spring 2024
  • In February, construction began on the proposed reimagination of Hudson River Park's northernmost concrete pier. The plans call for an elevated belvedere with river views, food concession, a playground, woodland walk and sunbathing lawn, together altering the Hell's Kitchen recreational landscape.

Transportation

  • Grand Central Madison LIRR station | Midtown Manhattan | January 2023
  • Getting from the East End to the East Side will soon become far more convenient: the MTA is now welcoming passengers to Grand Central Madison, a new Long Island Rail Road station below the historic Grand Central Terminal. Full service into the terminal began running January 25, 2023, allowing LIRR to reach both sides of Manhattan for the first time.
  • The Beluga24 Zero-Emission Ferry| Brooklyn & Manhattan | Spring 2024
    • Slated to launch in spring 2024, this first-of-its-kind watercraft, The Beluga24, will usher in a new era of cleaner and more efficient marine transportation. The vessel will operate under the yellow-and-black branding of New York Cruise Lines' subsidiary, New York Water Taxi, running on the Hudson River between Brooklyn and Manhattan. The ferry will hold up to 147 passengers per ride and 28 bicycles, and will feature exclusive technology to ensure the most energy efficient, high speed ferry on the market.
  • LaGuardia Airport | East Elmhurst, Queens | Ongoing
    • The airport is undergoing an $8 billion transformation to a single, structurally unified main terminal with better transportation access and first-class passenger amenities - the first complete rebuild of a U.S. airport in over 25 years. In June, Delta Air Lines opened the doors to the new Terminal C. The gleaming new terminal houses modern design elements, art installations by local New York artists, five baggage claim carousels, and a new concourse with 10 gates. The eastern concourse at Terminal B opened in December 2018, with Air Canada, American Airlines, United Airlines and Southwest Airlines all operating out of the new gates. All renovations are slated for completion in 2024.
  • Newark Liberty International Airport | New York City Metropolitan Area | Ongoing
    • On January 12, 2023, Newark Liberty International Airport debuted the updated $2.7 billion Terminal A, offering 33 new gates directly connected to a multilevel parking facility. The Airport is also working towards a new 2.5-mile elevated guideway train system, which will reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and ease traffic congestion.
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport | Jamaica, Queens | Ongoing
  • In December 2022, JFK unveiled the newly revitalized Terminal 8, developed by American Airlines and British Airways, offering travelers new premium lounges, enhanced baggage systems, and premium check-in space and more to be discovered. The $9.5 billion international Terminal One is expected to open in 2026, including a complete redesign of the airport's roadways, expansion of parking lots and more.

  • HBX New York | Chinatown, Manhattan | June 2022
    • At the start of the summer season, Hypebeast, one of the first online platforms to share all streetwear and sneaker related news, opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Chinatown. With a raw and minimalistic interior design, the two-floor retail store sells pieces by brands including Nike, Raf Simons, Thome Brown, Acne Studios and more.
  • Tihngs by Eric Oglander | Ridgewood, Queens | June 2022
  • Located in Ridgewood, Queens, Tihngs offers customers a unique shopping experience from Curator Eric Oglander, formerly of auction house Catalog Sale. The store is open every Saturday, where Oglander brings in new finds collected from estate sales and antique fairs.
  • Isabel Marant New York Flagship | Upper East Side, Manhattan | July 2022
