“Take Care” Packages Project

"Take Care" Packages Project

Thanks to everyone's generosity with our "Wilmette Welcome Wednesday" program supporting migrant families, we are pleased to share that we have outgrown the space at the Wilmette Metra Station. In partnership with SaLT: Service and Learning Together, we invite you to participate in our latest initiative - "Take Care" Packages. Designed to assist migrants who are arriving via bus from Texas to Chicago suburbs while they await transfer to the Chicago Processing Center, the "Take Care" Packages are a tangible expression of our community's care for others. The Village of Wilmette and SaLT recognize the challenges faced by those arriving in a new community, state, or country, and we aim to ease their transition by providing essential items that will promote well-being and comfort. "Take Care" Packages will include items such as water, non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products, first aid kits, winter clothing, baby items, and children's comfort items such as books/games/stuffed animals. This drive will be ongoing to meet future needs with the goal of having a minimum of 200 "Take Care" Packages at all times available to the migrants passing through Wilmette.

Please use this link to visit SaLT's website for a specific list of requested donation items and drop off sites within Wilmette and our neighboring communities. To volunteer or to learn more about hosing your own "Take Care" Packages event, please complete the information at the bottom of their webpage or email [email protected].

Thank you for being an essential part of this mission.
