San Francisco - Caltrans is scheduling overnight closures of two lanes on Interstate 80 (I-80) beginning Monday, September 16 at 10:00 PM to allow crews to make emergency barrier repairs. One lane will remain open while the work is taking place. The emergency repairs are necessary to replace damaged concrete barrier and tubular railing on connectors due to vehicle collisions over the years. The repairs include removing and rebuilding sections of the barrier structures. During the closure window, motorists may experience significant traffic delays. Motorist should use an alternate route, listed below.
This month's repairs are the first of many other needed repairs requiring lane closures on the Central freeway through October. The first repairs in October is scheduled for October 4, where a 55-hour weekend full closure will be required on US-101 Central Freeway to complete barrier repairs. SF motorist should expect delays. Caltrans will keep the public apprised of additional scheduled closures on its website and social platforms.
