More than 25 percent of all Portland General Electric's residential and business customers are enrolled in PGE's Green Futures program, the most successful green power program ever offered by any local utility.
Thanks to the support of Green Future customers, the program has distributed $19 million to 92 local renewable energy projects across Oregon, generating 17 MW of renewable power to date.
As a leader in renewable energy, PGE is proud to hold the No. 1 ranking from the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory for the largest participation of customers in a renewable energy program among U.S. electric utilities.
"It's exciting to see PGE customers leading the nation in choosing renewable energy programs," said John McFarland, PGE vice president chief commercial and customer officer. "Their participation not only showcases their commitment to helping create a clean energy future, but also supports the development of renewable energy projects in our community."
Through the program, more than 225,000 PGE customers pay about $7 extra each month to support renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and low-impact hydro, which help increase the availability and distribution of clean energy across the West.
PGE's Renewable Development Fund (RDF) is also supported by contributions from the Green Futures program. Selected through an open and competitive application process, this funding supports local organizations like Blanchet House Farm , Rockwood Boys & Girls Club , Oregon Zoo and Planned Parenthood of Salem in completing renewable energy projects that help support the grid.
Local renewable energy projects play a key role in PGE's mission to achieve a clean energy future and by participating, customers contribute to creating greener, more sustainable communities for everyone. To learn more about The Green Future Program, visit portlandgeneral.com/greenfuture.
