New skate park opens in Nantwich

17 October 2023

Nantwich residents have been given a brand-new skate park thanks to a £100,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation.

The park features a multi-wheeled sports facility, which allows skateboarders, scooters, roller skaters and many other park users, access to an enormously improved facility at Barony Park in Nantwich.

Councillor Mick Warren, chair of Cheshire East Council's environment and communities committee, said: "It's been a rigorous process to get to the point where we have been successful in our application for this funding, then gone on to complete the construction of the new facility but the benefits are there now for all to see. The facility will make a huge difference to the lives of people living in the area.

"This skate park will provide a real boost to the people of Nantwich. Residents will feel the benefits of an outstanding facility and it's fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money. It's great to declare this park open for business, I just want as many people as possible to come along and use it now!"

Dr Kieran Mullan, MP for Crewe and Nantwich, said: "This is great news for local young people and the whole area, which hasn't had a skate park for well over two years now. I want to really thank the local skating group for all their efforts campaigning on this, and for Ansa for taking the time to listen to their views and the views of other people that wanted a skate park Nantwich can be proud of."

Councillor Anna Burton, ward member for Nantwich North and West, said: "I was delighted to be at the official opening of the Skate Park. A massive well done to Friends of Nantwich Skate Park in their efforts to rebuild this much-loved community asset. This is a great facility to have in Nantwich North and West. I look forward to supporting this project going forward. An impressive achievement. Well done."

FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Cheryl Raynor, FCC Communities Foundations local grant manager said: "We were delighted to support Cheshire East Council to bring this park to fruition - the evidence of support from the local community demonstrated that the facility was needed and desperately wanted."
