Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard anticipates new investments in Guanajuato
  • The Foreign Secretary inaugurates a new passport office in Salamanca, Guanajuato; says the Foreign Ministry will continue to promote investment in states and cities by sending municipal convoys to the U.S. and other countries.

Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard today inaugurated a Foreign Ministry Municipal Liaison Office in Salamanca, Guanajuato. The office was opened to meet the growing demand for passports and to serve as liaison for consular procedures, mostly in the United States. "The growing demand for passports in Salamanca led us to open this office, which issues 2,000 passports. It was very necessary," said the Foreign Secretary.

Secretary Ebrard inaugurated the new office in the presence of 2,000 people. The event was attended by Mayor Julio César Ernesto Prieto Gallardo, federal and local authorities and legislators.

The Foreign Secretary discussed the potential for new investments in Salamanca and other municipalities in the Bajío region as a result of the convoys of mayors organized by the Foreign Ministry that have traveled to the U.S. in search of business.

"I took the mayors to Texas, and at first nobody knew anything about Salamanca. In the end, many asked about investment possibilities, and soon Mayor Julio César is going to report to you on the results of these efforts," said the Secretary.

"Marcelo had the great idea of putting together convoys from municipalities across the country and taking them to the United States and Europe, and we have already gotten results," said Mayor Prieto Gallardo. "His vision for assisting municipalities has led to investments for us."

The Director General of Passport Offices, Carlos Candelaria, said that the Guanajuato municipalities that will be served by the new office are: Santa Cruz de Juventino Rosas, Villagrán, Cortázar, Jaral del Progreso, Valle de Santiago and Pueblo Nuevo.
