For the 21st edition of Nuit Blanche à Montréal, the NFB is dreaming up a magical night of film for you on March 2! The NFB Space will be open late into the night so you can star in your own animated film and snap a glamour pic on the red carpet with a real Oscar (yes, you read that right!). Up the staircase at the Alanis Obomsawin Theatre, delightful film programs for all ages will be screening in a loop. This will be the second time the NFB's downtown headquarters at Place des Festivals serves as the venue for its Nuit Blanche activities.

The NFB is expanding its participation at Nuit Blanche as a content partner with the screening of episodes of Iris Boudreau and Francis Papillon's hit animated series, La liste des choses qui existent(The Great List of Everything), at the Montreal Science Centre. The NFB will also be returning to the MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE festival, from February 29 to March 10, 2024, with the epic outdoor screening of Montréal d'hier et d'hiver by Karine Lanoie-Brien (Expo 67 Live).

At the NFB Space
- Two stop-motion animation stations (pixilation*) where you can be the main character in your own animated short using an assortment of accessories. Then share it with your friends and be a star!

- Strut the red carpet and pose with the honorary Oscar awarded to the NFB in 1988 for excellence in every area of filmmaking. Then share your photo with family and friends and on your socials. What could be more glamourous?

*An animation technique used most notably at the NFB by the great Norman McLaren in his Oscar-winning film Neighbours.

At the Alanis Obomsawin Theatre

- Check out two delightful programs of short docs and animated films-one for families and the other at the end of the evening. The programs run about 35 minutes each and will be screened in a loop.

- There's something for everyone, from the Oscar-nominated animated filmsThe Cat Came Back (Le chat colla) by Cordell Barker and The Flying Sailor (Le matelot volant) by Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis to the hilarious La pureté de l'enfance (Sweet Childhood) by Zviane and Caresses magiques - Doux Jésus (Magical Caresses: Sweet Jesus) by Lori Malépart-Traversy.

Hot drinks served at the theatre entrance.

The diverse range of topical works in the NFB's collection will come in handy for a screening featuring select episodes from Iris Boudreau and Francis Papillon's entertaining animated series, La liste des choses qui existent (The Great List of Everything; La Pastèque/NFB, in partnership with Télé-Québec), at the Montreal Science Centre's IMAX®TELUS Theatre, as part of a partnership for the first Nuit Blanche event organized by the centre.

o Epic outdoor screenings

Montréal d'hier et d'hiver by multi-disciplinary artist Karine Lanoie-Brien (Expo 67 Live) is returning this year. Created in collaboration with the NFB, it showcases archival winter scenes that depict Montreal's love affair with skating. This is one of the giant projections being shown simultaneously on the facades of the Wilder Building - Espace Danse and UQAM's Pavillon Président-Kennedy, to enhance the Place des Festival's CeraVe Skating Loop.
