Hazard reduction burn in South East Forest National Park

Hazard reduction burn in South East Forest National Park

26 April 2024

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a hazard reduction burn in South East Forest National Park along Stanton Rock Road beginning Monday 29 April 2024.

This area of the national park will be closed to visitors while the operation is underway, and reopen when it is safe to do so.

About 106 hectares will be treated in this section of South East Forest National Park.

The burn aims to reduce fuel hazards and the potential of bushfires in South East Forest National Park, to assist in the protection of life and property surrounding the reserve while maintaining biodiversity.

Smoke is likely to be seen in the Wyndham area. Road closures are in effect for Stanton Rock Road in South East Forest National Park. Some smoke may occur on Burragate Road and drivers are asked to use caution and follow signage directions.

People with known health conditions can sign up to receive air quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. For health information relating to smoke from bushfires and hazard reduction burns, visit NSW Health or Asthma Australia.

More information on hazard reduction activities is available at NSW Rural Fire Service and the NSW Government's Hazards Near Me website and app.
