Hustings event for election of TVP Police & Crime Commissioner: 23rd April, 2024

Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) is hosting a hustings event ahead of the election for the Thames Valley Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) on 2nd May where local colleagues' votes matter.

PCCs are elected in areas of England and Wales to make sure that local police meet the needs of the community. They are responsible for:

  • how an area is policed;
  • the police budget;
  • the amount of Council Tax charged for the police;
  • the information local people receive about what the local police are doing; and
  • appointing and dismissing the chief constable (the most senior police officer for the area).

The hustings event will be held on 23rd April in the Gateway Lecture theatre at the University's High Wycombe campus.  Please join us for light refreshments from 5:30pm in the Garden Café before the event starts promptly at 5:45pm when BNU's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nick Braisby, will welcome guests.

The candidates wishing to stand as the next Commissioner for the Thames Valley will each be given an allotted time to set out their manifesto and priorities. Guests will also have an opportunity to ask the candidates questions to help inform their vote when the polls open on 2nd May. The Q&A session will be moderated by Allison Savory, the Subject Lead for policing programmes at BNU.

Guests are politely reminded that they must not distribute any promotional material linked to a future general election.
