WORKING VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS TO BRUNEI DARUSSALAM 11 & 12 AUGUST 2024
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan will undertake a working visit to Brunei Darussalam on 11 and 12 August 2024, in conjunction with the 25th Meeting of the Implementation of the Exchange of Letters between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam (EOL-25). EOL is a document signed by Leaders from both countries in 2009, which outlined priority areas in bilateral relations.
The EOL will be co-chaired by the Foreign Minister and his Bruneian counterpart, Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof. Both Ministers will take stock of the progress of bilateral cooperation and deliberate on the agreements reached by both Leaders during the 24th Annual Leaders Consultation (ALC-24) last year. The outcome of the 25th EOL will then serve as the preparation for the ALC-25, which will be hosted by Brunei Darussalam on 26 August 2024.
While in Bandar Seri Begawan, the Foreign Minister is also scheduled to have an audience with the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, underscoring the visit's added significance to the close and special relationship that has long been supported by the shared commonalities of the Malay monarchy system, heritage, culture, and familial ties between the two countries. Both Foreign Ministers will attend a Dinner to commemorate this milestone. The event will also host distinguished guests, senior officials from the Government of Brunei Darussalam, and heads of foreign delegations.
In 2023, Brunei Darussalam was Malaysia's sixth-largest trading partner among ASEAN Member States, with total trade valued at USD2.04 billion (RM9.31 billion).
