IUIU Rector Participates in the 15th RENU AGM

Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) participated in the annual Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU) 15th Annual General Meeting (AGM) On 25th April 2024 at Kampala Serena Hotel.

The Rector was represented by the Vice-Rector incharge of Academic Affairs, Dr. Jamil Serwanga, and the ICT HoD Dr.Chemisto Musa.

As a member of RENU, IUIU is among is part of the annual decision-making process that is interested in ensuring the growth, governance, oversight, and direction of RENU.

During the meeting, among other issues the CEO's report for the year ended 31st December 2023 showed that RENU is financially stable and has developed new products for members to use, RENU's new strategic plan 2024-2028 which was approved by the Board and the AGM.

The IUIU Vice Rector incharge of Academic Affairs advised RENU to develop a plan to get a permanent home so that they do not have to pay office rent and cut on expensive office rent expenditures.

Dr jamil also suggested that RENU motivates member institutions that delay inmaking their financial subscriptions on time so that RENU finances are not affected.

RENU provides ICT critical services Internetand Connectivity Bandwidth (Internet Service Provider eduroam on the Go Anti-plagiarism Software (Turnitin) ZoomColocation (Email Hosting and Website Hosting Website Application Filtering Primary Domain Name System (DNS)

Founded in 2006, RENU is a National Research and Education Network (NREN) that is aspecialized ICT solutions provider for the entire Research and Education (R&E) community includingschools, colleges, other tertiary institutions, hospitals, and their end users.

New products were also showcasedat the occasion suchas Solar Powered Routers whichthey intend to manufacture in Uganda, eduroam on the go, and Campus Network as a Service (CNaaS) whichthey have offered to member institutions.

IUIU is already using some new products like solar powered routers at Kampala campus and Main campus Mbale.
