Two People Charged With Murder of Man in Rothwell

Police investigating the death of a man have charged two people with murder.

Stephen Long, aged 48, and Cheryl Long, aged 46, both of Rothwell, have been remanded in custody to appear before Leeds magistrates this morning (Tuesday, 12 March).

The charges relate to the death of a 49-year-old man from Leeds who passed away in hospital after an incident in Smithson Street, Rothwell at about 10pm on Saturday, 9 March.

The incident is being investigated by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team and anyone with information or footage that may assist is asked to contact them on either 101, or by using the Live Chat facility online, quoting Operation Plusfort.

Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Leeds.

At about 10pm on Saturday, police were notified by the ambulance service of a man in his forties receiving medical assistance in Smithson Street, Rothwell.

The man was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later.

Enquiries into the man's death have established that there was a disturbance in the area prior to the man needing medical attention.

A 48-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody at this time.

West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is appealing for any witnesses to the disturbance, or anyone who may have footage that will assist, to contact them on 101, or by using the livechat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website, quoting Operation Plusfort.
