Courtney Announces More Than $120,000 in American Rescue Plan Funding for Eastern Connecticut Airports

NORWICH, CT-Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) todayannounced three new federal pandemic relief grants totaling more than $120,000 to three airports that are critical to life and commerce in eastern Connecticut. The grants were awarded to Danielson Airport, Groton-New London Airport, and to Windham Airport. Each of the three relief grants were awarded through the Airport Rescue Grant program, a relief program created by Congress through the American Rescue Plan Act (H.R. 1319), which was signed into law by President Biden on March 11, 2021.

'Our region's economy can't operate at full strength without our local airports, and in eastern Connecticut we've got local airports from the Quiet Corner to the shoreline that are responsible for moving thousands of passengers, and millions of dollars' worth of goods around the country each year,' said Rep. Courtney. 'There was a lot of talk a few months back about where American Rescue Plan funding was going-a lot of that talk has faded lately as folks keep seeing relief being delivered in a variety of ways directly to our local communities. American Rescue Plan funding is helping our schools stay open, it's supporting our local police stations and firehouses, and now it's being delivered directly to our local airports, whose work helps give a boost to commerce in just about every sector of our eastern Connecticut economy. This new support will help keep people and commerce moving in and out of our local airports, and it's another example of why I voted to pass the American Rescue Plan.'

The Danielson Airport, located in Killingly, CT, and the Windham Airport, located in North Windham, CT, will each receive federal Airport Rescue Grant awards of $32,000. The Groton-New London Airport will receive $59,000 in Airport Rescue Grant funding. Each of the three grant awards were made possible by the American Rescue Plan Act, which Rep. Courtney voted to send to President Biden's desk for signature on March 10, 2020.

The Airport Rescue Grant program was created by American Rescue Plan specifically to provide economic assistance to eligible U.S. airports to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and its various impacts, and to help support the recovery of the national airport system.
