Minister of Foreign Affairs attends Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Virtual Ministerial Meeting
On 23 September 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Virtual Ministerial Meeting, which was chaired by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) in New York. Also in attendance were ministers and high-level representatives from IPEF Partner Countries.
The Meeting commended on the significant progress made since the IPEF Ministerial Meeting and the IPEF Clean Economy Investor Forum in Singapore last June, as well as welcomed the upcoming entry into force of the Clean Economy Agreement, Fair Economy Agreement, and IPEF for Prosperity Agreement (Overarching Agreement) in October 2024. The IPEF Ministers then discussed on the proposed work plans and next steps for IPEF cooperation, focusing on delivering concrete outcomes, technical assistance, and capacity building, in order to ensure maximum benefits for all IPEF Partners.
The Minister informed the meeting that Thailand has deposited the Instruments of Ratification for the Fair Economy and Overarching Agreement, while the domestic process is on track in order to ratify the Clean Economy Agreement. The Minister reaffirmed Thailand's continued commitment to working with IPEF Partners to further enhance competitiveness in supply chains, advance energy transition, and foster transparency. In addition, he also prioritised promoting more investment in the industries of the future and encouraged the involvement of private sector as key players. The Minister then emphasized the importance of keeping the momentum going to ensure continued success of IPEF for sustainable growth.
