On Saturday, May 21, 2022, at approximately 9:12 a.m., Wailuku Patrol Officers responded to a residence in Kula; regarding a male who had suffered a single gunshot wound to his thigh. Preliminary investigation reveals the firearm was accidentally discharged while being cleaned. The 28-year-old male was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.

Officers recovered the firearm and one magazine containing eight .22 caliber ammunition and one spent .22 caliber shell.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
