What is the History of the Company?

IFMK Law, Ltd. is a new and growing firm, but readers and Illinois Chamber of Commerce members may recognize many of our partners and attorneys who were previously with Inman & Fitzgibbons. Ltd. (I&F) and O'Halloran, Kosoff, Geitner & Cook LLC (OKGC) - two litigation defense firms with a longstanding list of business and public entity clients and relationships throughout Illinois. IFMK Law, Ltd was formed in Spring 2023 through a merger of I&F and OKGC resulting in expanded practices in Civil, Law Enforcement and Jail Defense Litigation practices, FOIA and OMA Legal Services, Employment Defense, Workers' Compensation Defense, Commercial Litigation and Business Legal Services, and Legal Counseling and Education Services. IFMK Law now represents and defends several hundred Illinois public entities, including counties, townships, municipalities, school districts, fire departments, public officials and employees, and private sector clients throughout the Midwest. Combined, we have greater capacity to be a resource for private business and public entities throughout Illinois. We have also expanded our practice to include Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, and Wisconsin, and we continue to hire more litigation attorneys as we grow.

Why Illinois and the Chamber of Commerce?

Illinois was the headquarters for the former firms, and that remains unchanged for IFMK Law, Ltd. IFMK has four offices in Illinois, reaching all regions of the state. Our Illinois Chamber membership and the relationships we have developed with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce have played a role in our growth. The Chamber has always supported our commitment to provide continued education to our clients and all who work in the industries in which we practice.

Initially, the former I&F focused primarily on the insurance and risk management industries, particularly in workers' compensation defense. Since 2017, I&F attorneys have presented to Illinois Chamber members throughout the state on topics ranging from the strategic use of AMA impairment ratings to the myths and pitfalls of claims management, and the basics of temporary total and temporary partial disability benefits including how to handle difficult situations from a defense standpoint. With the addition of the former OKGC practice groups, we now have more knowledge to share with Illinois Chamber members.

IFMK has added teams of attorneys with experience and recognized practices in Employment Law Defense, Civil Litigation, and Workers' Compensation. The Chamber's formal and informal gatherings, meetings, and extensive resources help us to learn from one another, and better serve our expanding array of clients in both business and public entity sectors. We appreciate the Chamber for its efforts to highlight and support businesses and industries of all sizes and sectors. We also rely on the Chamber to provide and share information about state legislation and initiatives that impact our business and our clients' businesses so that we can timely inform our clients and provide a voice for our clients in the legislative process as we have done in the past.

What are IFMK's Core Values?

At IFMK Law, we believe that the best defense starts with an understanding of the facts of each case and early recognition of risk. IFMK attorneys work with our clients to formulate an appropriate strategy that considers the facts, medical issues, legal issues, and the particulars of the geographic locale and the courts and administrative agencies involved. Our core values remind us that we do not just practice law, we also engage with varying stakeholders in every case. If our clients need legal help for their business or public entity, we are available to receive inquiries and render legal opinions regardless of whether the cases have been formally referred for defense.

In some cases, an aggressive response leading to litigation will be in our clients' best interest. In others, a different approach may be warranted. In all cases, we work with our clients to ensure that their legal decisions are good business decisions.
