Detectives searching for the next of kin of body found at Robberg 5 Beach in Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay detectives are searching for the next of kin of a man whose body was retrieved from the water at Robberg 5 Beach at Plettenberg Bay on 13 December 2023.

Witness reports indicate that the man, believed to be in his mid-twenties, arrived at the beach at about 18:25. He went into the water and disappeared. The life guards deployed immediately responded and the body was retrieved. He was later declared deceased by medical personnel on scene.

The deceased whose identity is yet to be established was dressed in blue jeans, shirt written "Afonso Mabengo" at the back and a pair of black Asics tekkies at the time.

An inquest docket is being investigated.

The investigation officer, Sergeant Zinnias Mtirara, urge the public to come forward with any information which could assist police to track down the next of kin of the deceased.
