Minister Albares meets with Secretary-General of World Tourism Organization

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares Bueno, held a meeting today with the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, Zurab Pololikashvili.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the only specialised United Nations agency with its headquarters in Spain, specifically in Madrid, where it has been located since it was set up back in 1976. Its main mission is to promote responsible, sustainable tourism that is accessible to all.

The minister explained the future transfer of the organisation's headquarters to the former Congress and Exhibition Palace in Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid, as agreed in 2019. The design for the renovation of this building is currently being completed and it is expected that works will begin shortly. He invited the secretary-general to visit the building where the organisation will have its future headquarters.
