Arts and Foreign Language Education Grant Program (AFL)

AFL is a joint initiative through IACA and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Its purpose is to support arts and foreign language education in schools, with an emphasis on ensuring that these areas become part of the school's core curriculum.

The one-year AFLP Grant is to support the development of district-based plans for initiating, strengthening, or expanding instruction in the arts or foreign language. AFLP grant awards are up to $40,000. The grant period will begin no sooner than March 15, 2022 and end November 15, 2022.

Eligible applicants are public school districts, public university laboratory schools, area vocational centers, and charter schools [school code105 ILSC 5/18-8.05(K), 2-3.109a, 2-3.109b, 27A-11.5]. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact Jerome Grandto confirm eligibility.

The AFLP grant period is part of a larger, four-year AFL cycle that includes three subsequent years of implementation. While the implementation grant is not available at this time, the AFLP grant would help prepare the grantee for success with the implementation application and process in the future.
